Approximately 3% of the new vehicles have some leakage from
their interior after leaving the factory and cause damaging effects like growth
of mold and damaging the electronic parts thus decreasing the value of the vehicles
and also their producing companies as well as and increasing the expense of
warranty repairs.
Apparently it is not a large percentage but hundreds of vehicles
have to be recalled because of leak warranty claims. The automotive industry carries
out multiple leak testing processes to maintain the quality of their products. Usually
it happens that small leaks are left unnoticed.
Soak Test
At first the traditional manual method were used to check
the leakage in a vehicle during its production and the vehicles are sprayed
with different angled water jets and its pressures is measure to be as 2,00
psi. After the application of the water jets to the vehicle, the vehicle is visually
and manually checked whether there is any leakage of water into the vehicle. This
is called the soak test but it is only useful for large leakage and smaller
leaks are often ignored. Often the
smaller leaks are present in the areas that are difficult to reach so they remain
unnoticed and the water pools in such areas and damages such areas of the
vehicles.
Wireless Water Sensor
For smaller leaks there is the need of some special
equipment. Wireless water sensor
detects the leakage as well as the level of the water. These wireless sensors for water leakage are
very valuable and useful to ensure the maintenance of the vehicles. They can
detect water leakage even in hard to reach parts of the vehicle but special expertise
is required in the operation of these sensors.
The sensors are placed in areas of the vehicle where water
can pool unnoticed so these sensors are very helpful in finding out if the
water has been leaked and to determine the exact place where the water is
leaking.
The best thing about the wireless sensors is that they are
battery-free. When the sensors are used inside the parts of the vehicles, the
vehicles are then driven through some portals having antennas to communicate
with the sensors wirelessly.
The sensors usually provides the following information
- The status of wetness and/or dryness of the vehicle
- The exact area of any leakage
- Affected materials/components of the vehicle
When this information is obtained from the sensors, the industrial
workers are able to work and repair the leaks in more efficient manner before
the vehicle is delivered to the public. The sensors are very useful. They help
in reducing the repair costs of the vehicles. These sensors are also very
helpful in helping the manufacturer reaching the location of the leakage and
the time is also saved from being wasted in searching the possible cause of
damage to the vehicle.
The use of wireless water sensors is becoming very important for
manufacturers. In the present time more and more hybrid and electric cars are
produced and these cars require the safety of their electronic circuitry and
electrical parts.
